Preposition of Direction : across , against , along , at , down , for , from , into , on , to , towards , up .
Use of 'Across '
' Across ' का प्रयोग Direction बताने हेतु निम्नलिखित अर्थों में होता है_
( a ) ' के पार ' / ' के उस पार ' ( on the opposite side of ) ; जैसे — She lives across the park .
( b ) ' एक ओर से दूसरी ओर तक ' / ' इस पार से उस पार तक ' ( from one side to an other ) ; जैसे-
There is a big bridge across the Ganga at Begusarai .
I easily swim across the river .
( c ) ' दोनों ओर ' ( both sides ) : जैसे-
He threw the shawl across his shoulders .
Use of 'Against'
' Against ' का प्रयोग Direction बताने हेतु निम्नलिखित अर्थों में होता है
( a ) ' के विरुद्ध ' ( in contravention of ) ; जैसे -
This boy has acted against the orders of the Principal .
( b ) ' प्रतिकूल ' / ' के विपरीत ( opposite ) ; जैसे-
Running against the wind is difficult .
( c ) से सटकर / से लगा ' / ' से लगी ' ( pressing on ) ; जैसे -
There is a ladder against the wall .
( d ) ' से ' ( with ) ; जैसे -
The waves beat against the shore .
Use of Along
' Along ' का प्रयोग Direction बताने हेतु ' सटे - सटे ' / ' किनारे - किनारे ' ( in the same line of ) के अर्थ में Corridor , line . river . road इत्यादि के साथ होता है ; जैसे He walks along the river bank .
Uses of 'At '
'At' का प्रयोग दिशा बताने हेतु ' लक्ष्य ' ( target ) के अर्थ में होता है । जैसे .-The tiger is enraged at its master .
Use of 'Down '
' Down ' का प्रयोग Direction बताने हेतु ' नीचे ' , ' नीचे की ओर ' के अर्थ में होता है । जैसे -Climb down the tree .
Use of 'For'
' For ' का प्रयोग Direction बताने हेतु ' मंजिल ' ( destination ) के अर्थ में होता है ; जैसे This is the train for Patna .
Use of 'From '
' From ' का प्रयोग Direction बताने हेतु ' की दिशा से ' के अर्थ में होता है । जैसे - The wind is blowing from the west to the east .
Use of 'Into'
' Into ' का प्रयोग अंदर की ओर गति बताने हेतु ' में ' के अर्थ में होता है । जैसे - The child fell into the well .
Use of 'On '
' on ' का प्रयोग लक्ष्य ( goal / target ) बताने हेतु ' पर ' के अर्थ में होता होता है । जैसे the opened fire on his enemies .
Note : Direction बताने में ' At ' तथा ' On के प्रयोग में सामान्यतः अंतर नहीं होता है ।
Use of ' To '
'To' का प्रयोग Direction बताने हेतु निम्नलिखित अथों में होता है । जैसे -
( a ) की ओर ' ( towards ) ; जैसे - This Road leads to chatti .
Note : Home तथा abroad के पहले ' to ' का प्रयोग नहीं होता है ; जैसे He is going home .
( b ) ' पास ' ( near ) ; जैसे Come to me .
( c ) ' यहाँ से वहाँ तक ' ( from here to there ) ; जैसे From Patna to Begusarai .
Use of 'Towards '
' Towards ' का प्रयोग Direction बताने हेतु ' की ओर ' ' की दिशा में ' ( in the direction of ) के अर्थ में होता है जैसे- He is going towards the school .
Use of 'Up '
' Up ' का प्रयोग Direction बताने हेतु ' ऊपर ' के अर्थ में होता है । जैसे - Seeing the police the thief climbed up a tree .
